Oregon's statewide reading competition — William Walker teams read, quiz, and battle their way through a great book list.
The Story
Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a voluntary, extracurricular reading program for students in grades 3 through 5. Kids form teams of 4 or 5, read or listen to books from this year's list of 16, and compete in quiz battles about them. It builds reading and listening skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Even more importantly, it's fun.
Download the signup form or pick one up at the OBOB station in the library. Turn in the signed permission slip to the librarian by Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Find the books at the school or public library, or buy them if your child wants to study at home. If you can, get your child's team together after school to practice. It makes a big difference. If your team wins the school championship, you'll need to drive your student to the regional tournament.
Helpers are always needed. Email Hilary Trzynka at htrzynka@gmail.com, or ask Ms. Brenda in the library. You can also learn more at the Oregon Battle of the Books website.
